How a Float Level Switch Works

How a Float Level Switch Works

Float level switches can be mounted on the side, top, bottom or side of a ship. Here, we describe the operating principle of a float level switch operated by a magnetic piston.

As the level of the process increases, the float with the lure sleeve rises and the float magnet rotates downward, which attracts the switch magnet that acts on the contacts of an electric switch in the process. When the process level drops, the float and the attraction sleeve fall and the polarized spring retracts the magnet in a quick action, disabling the electrical switch. This type of float level switch is completely sealed and suitable for heavy industrial applications up to 900 psig and 4000 ° C (7500 ° F), meeting the requirements of the ASME code.

These switches can be mounted on the side, on the top or in the cage and can be used for both alarm and control functions in steam drums, feed water heaters, condensation pots, oil / gas separators, receivers and accumulators.
