How a Flow Switch Works

Flow switches are mechanical devices used to control the flow of air, steam or liquid. A flow switch operates by transmitting a trip movement (relay, reed switch, paddle) to another machine within the system, usually a pump. The trip signal will indicate the pump to start or stop. It is necessary to provide protection against damage and cooling of the circuit or adjust flow rates that are too high or too low.

Flow Definition

Flow refers to the speed or physical movement of gas, steam or liquid within a tube that drives the flow switches. When there is no flow present, the speed drops or stops completely; in either case, the switch will revert to its original position.

Uses of flow switches

A liquid flow switch is applicable in the chlorination of a swimming pool, hot water heating, air conditioning, liquid transfer systems, fire sprinkler systems and industrial laser cooling systems.

Water flow switches are implemented in water irrigation systems. In the event of a fire, for example, a flow switch can trigger an electrical fire alarm device to turn on.

Air flow switches are used to clean room filter systems, exhaust ventilation and air handling systems.

Flow switches are used in many other applications, such as:

Water treatment systems, Additive or mixing systems, Air supply systems, Duct heating, air conditioning, hot water heating systems, pump systems, water-cooled equipment, mixing or additive systems, transfer systems liquids, fire extinguishing systems, water treatment systems, swimming pool chlorination and industrial laser cooling systems. Air flow switches can be used for clean room filter systems, exhaust ventilation and air handling systems.
